The project is an existing building situated along Gold Course Road, a major arterial road in Gurgaon. When SCDA took on the project, the reinforced concrete structural frame had been completed and the façade elements already in place. SCDA worked closely with the Edition and Marriot teams to create an elegant urban hotel witin the constriants of the existing building fabric. The dicrection from the client was to preserve almost all of the existing structure due to budget and time constraints.

SCDA's response was to strip the existing façades and reorganise the major indoor and outdoor spaces while maintaining the main structural elements and circulation cores. The design solution is a total integration of architecture and landscape concepts. Architectural spaces are sculpted from within the existing structure and arranged to respond to the outdoor landscape zones. The hotel and ballroom guest entry circulation flows were clarified by moving them from the existing common entry in the middle of the podium to separate ends of the building, each anchored by a discrete entry landscape court. This allows for a soaring and light filled double-volume hotel lobby that stretches along the podium and opens up to a linear reflecting pool, bounded by tall hedges beyond to create a private oasis. Bracketed by the hotel reception on one end and the all-day dining on the other, this linear space is the hotel's major social space. A specialy restaurant located on the second floor merges seamlessly with lushly landscaped podium roof and pool deck.

The façade is intentionally kept simple and precise with thin articulated edges and fins. Predominance is placed on a vertical expression with different rhythmic densities to control the proportion and scale of the existing building mass. The architectural vocabulary is of understated luxury, elegance of line and profile and emphasis on fine crafted detailing.
