Situated on the ground floor of a traditional shophouse at the end of a quaint street in Singapore’s Chinatown, Comptoir Soori is a French wine bar and épicerie. Taking cue from a typical Parisian bistrot du quartier, the interiors aim to create a casual dining space perfect for bringing patrons together and showcasing the venue’s fuss-free yet elegant fare. Guests can watch the staff in action in the open kitchen while seated at the bar, chat over wine at the wooden communal table, or share a meal at the more intimate area at the back fitted with cosy banquette seating. The narrow space is enlarged by the clever use of mirrors, and maximised by using full-height shelving both as room divider and display for the products on sale. The crisp whites and blacks of the upholstery and wall finishes are warmed up by natural wood, and create a minimal backdrop that focuses the guests’ attention on the food and wine. Every detail, from flatware to table accessories was handpicked to create a holistic dining experience.
